About Living shoreline project

Save Our Basin - SOB

Did you know that the "canal" or bay or harbor  we refer to at the Northend  is offically named "Carolina Beach Yacht Basin"?Perfect for our SOB project name!

Our initial initiative is the Oyster Cleaning Project, a pilot program developed with support from North Carolina Coastal Federation to encourage oyster shell collection and support restoration efforts.

Save Our Basin (S.O.B.) is a community-driven initiative dedicated to improving the health of our local waterways through education, conservation, oyster shell recycling, and living shoreline projects.

We believe that small actions, when taken together, can make a lasting difference. By bringing residents, local businesses, visitors, and environmental partners together, we can help restore our basin and protect it for future generations.

Join us for our first Oyster Roast, February 5th.  More information to come.

About

The Benefits: A Healthier Basin for Everyone

Investing in our basin creates environmental and community benefits that extend far beyond the shoreline.

Healthier Waterways
Oysters naturally filter water as they feed, helping improve water clarity and supporting a balanced aquatic ecosystem.

Stronger Coastal Habitats
Oyster reefs and living shorelines can provide habitat for fish, crabs, and other marine life while supporting coastal resilience.

Reduced Shoreline Erosion
Properly designed living shorelines can help stabilize vulnerable shorelines while preserving natural habitat.

A Cleaner, More Beautiful Community
Conservation efforts encourage responsible practices, reduce waste, and help protect the places we enjoy.

A Lasting Legacy
By working together today, we can help ensure future generations inherit a healthier, more vibrant basin.

Why Donate?

A healthier basin benefits everyone.

Our waterways face challenges from pollution, stormwater runoff, habitat loss, and shoreline erosion. Protecting this valuable resource requires community involvement, practical solutions, and ongoing support.

Your donation helps turn our mission into meaningful action.

Every contribution, large or small, helps us build a stronger conservation program and create opportunities for our community to make a difference.

When you give to Save Our Basin, you invest in the future of our waterways, wildlife, and coastal community.
